Meet Jamie
Jamie Eldridge has served as State Representative for the 37th Middlesex district since January 2003, where he has displayed leadership and independence on behalf of his constituents, after being elected the only Clean Elections candidate to public office in Massachusetts history in 2002. That independence was illustrated in the very first vote Jamie took after being sworn in – voting against Tom Finneran as Speaker of the House. Since then, he has focused his energies on enhancing public education, stimulating the economy, protecting the environment, improving public safety, and expanding access to health care.
A lifelong Acton resident, Jamie is a product of the region’s public schools, graduating from Acton-Boxborough Regional High School in 1991. Jamie’s commitment to public service was on display at an early age as he co-founded the high school’s community service organization, Acton Boxborough Community Outreach (ABCO). His commitment to public service continued during his college years at Johns Hopkins University, from which he graduated in 1995, where he served as Philanthropy Chair of his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Mu, and president of the student body. Jamie’s commitment to public service followed through his years at Boston College Law School, from which he graduated in 2000, where he served as President of the Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) for two years.
Displaying a dedication to public service, Jamie has been very involved in his local community. In 2001, Jamie was elected as a member of the Acton Housing Authority and was appointed by the Acton Board of Selectmen as an Associate Member to the Acton Planning Board. Holding these positions was invaluable to Jamie learning more deeply about municipal budgets, working with town officials, the impact of state legislation on communities, and housing, environmental, and "Smart Growth" issues.
Jamie has also long been politically involved in the Middlesex & Worcester district. Jamie was a town coordinator for then-State Representative Bob Durand’s first bid for State Senate in 1990. In 1996, Jamie managed Senator Durand’s successful re-election campaign. And, in 1998, Jamie also managed then-State Representative Pam Resor’s successful re-election campaign, and in 2000 managed her successful re-election campaign for the State Senate.
Prior to his election as State Representative, Jamie worked as a public interest attorney with Merrimack Valley Legal Services in Lowell.
